How to Find Serial Ports in a Palm Desktop

Palm Desktop software allows users to back up data from a Palm device to a computer. However, in order to connect to the computer, Palm Desktop software must have access to a serial port on the PC. Serial ports allow files to be sent from a device to a computer using a serial cable. If the available serial ports are not identified automatically when syncing the Palm device, the ports may have to be identified manually.

  Right-click "My Computer" from the "Start" menu.

  Select "Properties."

  Choose "Device Manager."

  Select "Ports (COM & LPT)" from the list of the serial ports and the devices being used by each port. Palm Desktop can use any available port.
