How to find WiFi

When you are away from home or the office, it does not mean you always want to be away from the Internet. Many businesses and local councils now provide free and pay-to-use wi-fi hotspots where you can connect any wi-fi compatible computer or mobile device and surf the Web. The only obstacle is knowing how to find wi-fi when you need it.

Text the postcode, town or street you are interested in to 81041 using your mobile telephone. If texting a street, use the format "Street,Town" (no spaces) while for towns, use the format "Town:County" (again no spaces). BT will text you back with a list of BT OpenZone wi-fi hotspots.

Visit a hotspot directory website such as BT Openzone, My HotSpots and JiWire. Enter the town, street or postcode you are interested in to discover wi-fi hotspots in that area. Make a note of these locations or download the details to your computer so you can look them up later.

Download a searchable directory of wi-fi hotspots from sites such as BT Openzone or Wi-Fi Hotspot List or use the free iPhone Wi-fi Finder application from JiWire. These allow you to search for wi-fi hotspots in your area and do not require you to be online when you run a search.
