Remove the tent trailer tarp from the tent trailer. Do this by using the screwdriver to remove the tension spring's cotter pins and the screws on both sides of the roller assembly that the tent trailer tarp is rolled around. Then with the tent trailer tarp detached from the tent trailer, unroll the tarp and lay it on a flat working surface. Unroll the tarp until the tarp roller is visible at one end of the tarp.
- 2
Measure with the tape measure any holes that there may be in the tent trailer tarp. Make notes by writing down the length and width of any holes you see.
- 3
Cut the lengths and widths of tarp tape needed to place tape over any holes that are in the tarp. Then with the appropriate lengths and widths of tape, place the tarp tape over any holes. Make sure that the holes are completely covered.
- 4
Look for any damaged grommets that may be on the tarp. Then use the scissors to cut the damaged grommets out of position. Now use the tape measure to make measurements for the size of replacement fabric pieces that will be needed to put in new grommets. Make notes on the length and width of the fabric pieces that you will need and the number of fabric pieces you will need.
- 5
Cut the lengths and widths of fabric pieces that you will need. Cut this from the rip-stop fabric material. Make sure that you get the number of pieces that you will need to repair all places where there were damaged grommets.
- 6
Sew into place the new pieces of rip-stop fabric material where they are needed on the tarp. This will allow you to then put new grommets into place on the tarp.
- 7
Cut holes for the new grommets in the repaired areas by using the hole-cutting side of the heavy-duty grommet pliers. Then fit the grommets into the holes that you created. Now use the grommet-driving side of the heavy duty grommet pliers to fasten the grommets into position. The grommets on the tent trailer tarp are now repaired.
- 8
Roll the tent trailer tarp up around the tarp roller that is at the end of the trailer tarp. Then position the rolled up tarp back onto the roller assembly. Use the screwdriver to place the screws and cotter pins back into place in the tension spring on both sides of the roller assembly in order to hold the tent trailer tarp in position.
