How to Get Ho-Oh in HeartGold

"Pokemon HeartGold Version" recreates the magic of the original Game Boy Color game "Pokemon Gold Version." The remake features several gameplay enhancements and graphical upgrades, but for the most part the story stays the same. This includes your encounter with the legendary Pokemon Ho-Oh, a powerful flying- and fire-type Pokemon that can only be encountered once over the course of the game. Capture Ho-Oh after collecting your eighth gym badge.

  Go to New Bark Town after collecting the eighth gym badge and enter Professor Elm's laboratory.

  Speak to Professor Elm to receive the Master Ball, a specialized Poke Ball that guarantees your capture of any Pokemon you use it on.

  Use a Pokémon with the fly ability to travel to Ecruteak City. Go to the Kimono Dance School, the large building directly north of the city's Pokemon Center.

  Battle the Kimono sisters after the automated conversation with your rival character. You will have to battle all five sisters with no break in between. This involves battling, in order, level 38 Umbreon, Espeon, Flareon, Jolteon and Vaporeon.

  Receive the Clear Bell for defeating the Kimono sisters and a little girl will enter the school to announce that Ho-Oh has been seen near the Bell Tower.

  Exit the school and head to the north end of town to a path blocked by the monk. He'll step aside when he sees you have the Clear Bell, so proceed along the path to the entrance to Bell Tower.

  Enter the tower and take the ladder to the second floor.

  Head northeast around the room, circumventing the wobbling pillar in the center of the room, until you reach another ladder to reach the third floor.

  Follow a clockwise path around the room on the third floor until you reach the platform with the wobbling pillar. Take the ladder here to reach the fourth floor.

  Head to the right and then down past the ramps to reach a ladder leading to the fifth floor.

  Walk all the way to the right, cross the bridge there and then head down to the bottom of the screen to reach the ladder to the sixth floor.

  Step into the teleport tile to warp to the top of Bell Tower. A brief cut scene in which the Kimono sisters summon Ho-Oh will ensue. Save your game and then approach Ho-Oh and press "A" to start the battle.

  Use your Master Ball to instantly capture Ho-Oh.
