How to Get Rid of Microsoft Messenger

Microsoft Instant Messenger is a messaging service that allows users to instantly send messages across the Internet. The program is a default program that is included with Windows software. Windows XP has the messenger program set up to begin at start-up when you turn your computer on and sign in to your Windows operating system. It is possible to completely remove Microsoft Messenger from your computers list of files. This will prevent future use of the program unless it is reinstalled.

      Click on your "Start" button on your computer desktop. Select the "Control Panel" from the pop-up window.

      Click on the "Add or Remove" program tab from the menu. This will generate a list of programs that can be found on your computer.

      Scroll down until you find Microsoft Messenger. Select the program, and click on "Remove."

      Follow the on-screen instructions to completely remove the software. Click on "OK" when the program has uninstalled.

      Click on the red X to close the "Add or Remove Software" box. You may have to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
