How to Get Rid of Retired Textbooks & Materials

Retired and obsolete textbooks and materials are often thrown away by schools, libraries and individuals at a huge cost to the environment. You can reduce waste and help the environment by reusing and recycling old textbooks. Explore all your options before throwing retired textbooks away.

      Contact your local Goodwill and ask if they will accept all or some of your retired textbooks and materials.

      Contact Indian reservations in your area to see if their libraries accept retired textbooks and materials.

      Contact the public and community college libraries in your region to see if they will accept your materials.

      Contact Prison Literacy Programs and the International Book Project for other donation options.

      Box up all your books and mail them to international donation programs such as Book Aid International, Bridge to Asia Books Program and Books for Africa.
