How to Get a TABC Certification

The Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission (TABC) encourages businesses that sell alcohol to employ properly trained servers and managers in order to prevent alcohol sales to minors or intoxicated people. To ensure this training is standardized, TABC has approved a number of courses that can be taken for TABC certification. These courses may be offered by a training school or developed by individual businesses for their employees. If your employer does not offer its own curriculum, you will need to attend and successfully complete training at an approved school in order to receive your TABC certification. A small number of Internet and video training schools are also available.

If your employer is one of the 29 certified in Texas to give in-house TABC certification, it is easiest to get your training at work. Otherwise, you will need to decide if you would like to attend one of the 85 alcohol certification courses in Texas or get your training via the Internet or video.

Locate a school near you by visiting the TABC website (see Resources). Find a school in your town and click to get their website or email address, or call them.
