How to get your kids to eat healthy vegetable treats

Admit it. Getting your children to eat healthily isn't easy, but lifelong healthy-eating habits begin in childhood. Incorporating fun-to-make and eat treats may be the key to promoting healthy eating. If encourage your kids to help in the snack preparation process, this may also encourage a healthier daily diet. Try making lily pads, celery boats and apple ladybugs with your children for a fun and healthy treat.

      Lily Pads

      Toast several pieces of whole wheat bread. Drop a few specks of blue food coloring into a tub of plain cream cheese and stir. Spread the cream cheese onto the toast and top with thinly cut slices of cucumber for a tasty lily pad treat.

      Celery Boats

      Chop up a few 2- to 3-inch pieces of fresh celery. Fill each celery boat with a squirt of spray cheese or peanut butter and top each with a handful of raisins.

      Apple Ladybugs

      Cut apples into oval shapes. Place ovals onto a plate, skin side down. Dunk raisins in peanut butter and stick them to the apples for delicious ladybug spots.
