How to Glue Velcro to Latex

Latex clothing is a specialty item with a style so form-fitting it's often challenging to squeeze into and tie closed again. Velcro closures can help make the process of wearing latex a bit easier, but if you want to add Velcro to existing latex garments, avoid sewing so as to keep from making holes that can stretch out bigger than you want them to. Instead, use liquid latex as a stretchy glue that will bond with the garment strongly and almost seamlessly.

  Locate an area on the latex item with thick rubber; you'll get the best results on areas that have the least capacity to stretch, since the Velcro does not stretch. Look for latex with a thickness of about 1/8th of an inch or more.

  Pin the Velcro pieces in place where you want them positioned. Attach the pins from the back of the rubber through the front of the Velcro piece.

  Mark the positions of the Velcro pieces on the rubber using the makeup pencil. Trace each piece of Velcro to create an outline for when you attach it permanently.

  Unpin and remove Velcro pieces in turn and apply liquid latex to the backs of them. Use the disposable brush to paint liquid on the back of the Velcro square. Apply a patch of glue in the center of the piece. Leave a margin of about 1/8th of an inch along the outside edge of the back to ensure that the latex doesn't ooze out later.

  Fasten the Velcro pieces to the rubber using the liquid latex as glue. Press the Velcro pieces into position inside the makeup pencil outlines you drew before; they will stick and the liquid latex will bond with the existing latex rubber.

  Let the liquid latex dry and cure. Wipe away the makeup pencil with a soft cloth.
