Locate the paper or cardboard template included with the lockset and tape it to the door.

Press a nail tip through the template and into the door to mark the center point of the cylinder and the center point of the latch bolt.

Center the hole saw on the cylinder hole mark made in step 2 and bore a 2 1/8 inch hole.

Center the spade bit on the latch hole mark made in step 2 and bore a 1 inch hole from the edge of the door to the cylinder hole.

Using the latch faceplate as a template, center it on the latch hole just drilled and trace around it with a pencil. Chisel the outlined space to a depth of 1/8 inch. Screw the faceplate into the chiseled area.

Insert the lockset into the cylinder hole and screw it together. Turn the lock so that the bolt sticks out through the faceplate. Liberally apply chalk to the end of the bolt. Turn the lock so that the bolt recedes back into the mechanism.

Close the door and turn the lock until the bolt makes contact with the door frame. It will leave a small chalk mark on the door frame.

Using the chalk mark as a guide, bore a hole using a spade bit. It should be deep enough to hold the bolt. .

Center the strike plate over the just-bored hole. Trace around it with a pencil and chisel the outlined space to a depth of 1/8 inch. Screw the strike plate into the chiseled area.
