How to Install Knobs on Cabinet Drawers

There are many different styles of drawer knobs available on the market. Your local hardware store probably has a decent selection. When you purchase knobs, you will notice that they come in two pieces. One piece is the knob itself and the other piece is a screw which will hold the knob in place and prevent it from spinning. Since knobs are made to fit virtually any type of drawer or cabinet, they are all made to installed in the same fashion.

Measure the length of the drawer and divide by two to find the exact center. Mark this measurement with a pencil.

Measure from the top of the drawer down approximately 1.5 inches and make a mark with a pencil. Where this mark and the center mark, from Step 1, meet is where the hole for the knob will be drilled.

Drill through the drawer, at the knob mark, with a 1/8-inch drill bit. Make sure to drill through the front of the drawer instead of from the back, to prevent the wood on the front from splintering.

Put the screws for the knob through the back of the drawer. Tighten the knob onto the screw by twisting it in the clockwise direction. You may need to use a wrench to keep the screw from spinning as you tighten the knob.
