How to Install LCD Inverters

The LCD inverter on your laptop or desktop monitor funnels power from the computer to the backlight bulb. Without this backlight bulb, the screen wouldn't function, and without the inverter the backlight would have no power. The good news is that if you have a faulty backlight bulb you can open up your LCD screen and replace it yourself.

Power off your laptop or LCD monitor and remove any power cables or cables connecting it to a computer tower.

    • 2

Locate the screws on the plastic bezel (frame) around the screen. If there are covers over the screws use the tip of your screwdriver or your fingers to pop the covers off.

    • 3

Remove the screws on the frame and set them aside.

    • 4

Separate the frame from the screen by pulling it off at the sides and corners. The rectangular inverter board will now be visible below or to the side of the LCD screen.

    • 5

Remove the screw securing the inverter and unplug the two cables connected to either end of the inverter board. Set the old inverter aside.

    • 6

Fit a new board in the old one's place and replace the screw. Plug the cables into the ports at the end of the board and replace the frame and screws.
