How to Keep Score in Eucher

After five cards are dealt to each person in a hand of four-player partnership euchre, the players determine the trump suit for that round. The team that accepts the trump is called the making team, and the other players form the defending team. A player with a particularly strong hand on either team may choose to play the round alone, making her teammate fold. When the five tricks in the hand have been played, the scoring is determined by the number of tricks taken by the making and defending teams and the number of players active in that hand.
    • 1

Award one point to the making team if they won three or four tricks in the hand with either one or both players active in the round.

    • 2

Score two points for the making team if they took all five tricks in the hand, which is called a march, with both teammates playing the hand.

    • 3

Give four points to the making team if the person who accepted trump for that team earned a march while playing alone.

    • 4

Award two points to the defending team if the making team was euchred -- that is, they failed to win at least three tricks -- with one or both defenders playing the hand.

    • 5

Give four points to the defending team if the making team was euchred and only one defender was playing the hand.
