How to Level a Garage Floor

Garage floors can become unlevel because of shifting under the floor or because of a problem with the original mix or application of the floor. To level a garage floor, it requires the floor to be cleaned thoroughly and all cracks and holes be patched before leveling. Leveling a garage floor is a time-consuming project that requires a lot of mixing and pouring so it is recommended to enlist some friends to help.

  Nail strips of wood across all door openings so that leveler cannot escape or seep into another room.

  Prime the floor by mixing a thin mix of leveling compound and water to the manufacturer's instructions and brush it on the floor with a wide push broom. Apply one coat for new concrete and two coats for older concrete. Let the leveling compound dry.

  Follow the manufacturer's instructions and mix the leveling compound and water in a bucket to a thick consistency. Pour the first layer of mix in a far corner on the floor. Mix a second layer and pour along the narrowest wall next to the first layer. Continue pouring the mix on the floor by working your way toward a door until the floor is covered. Let the leveling compound self level and dry to the manufacturer's recommendations.
