How to Load OS-FTA Attached Files Onto a Satellite Receiver

All satellite receivers require the occasional firmware upgrade. This includes FTA (free-to-air) receivers. Once you have the OS-FTA files (downloaded from the same site the hardware is purchased through), you need to upload the files onto a the satellite receiver with a USB flash drive. Once upgraded, the FTA receiver is able not only to work with the latest electronic hardware, but also to receive the latest free-to-air satellite programming.

Insert the USB flash drive into one of the USB ports on your computer system.

    • 2

Right-click the OS-FTA file you downloaded from the FTA satellite website and then choose "Send To," "Extract" and select the USB flash drive as the extraction location.

    • 3

Click "Start," "Computer" and then right-click the removable device icon. Select "Eject" from the menu that appears and disconnect the flash drive from the computer when the icon disappears.

    • 4

Power down the satellite receiver and plug the USB flash drive into the USB port on the satellite receiver.

    • 5

Turn on the receiver, and the OS-FTA files will upload directly onto the satellite receiver. Remove the USB flash drive when the receiver has finished uploading the contents.
