How to Locate a Franchise

According to the International Franchise Association (IFA), a franchise is an agreement between two parties that provides an individual or group the right to market a product or service using the trademark or trade name of the business. They are also allowed to use the same operating methods, obtain the support of the franchisor and pays fees for these rights. Examples of popular franchises are McDonald's, Pizza Hut and 7-Eleven.

      Visit the International Franchise Association. IFA is a membership organization that consists of franchises, franchisees and suppliers. The association provides information on franchises, the franchise industry, career opportunities and resources.

      Check your local newspaper. Your local newspaper should have franchise listings in its classifieds section.

      Contact your states business development department. Your state government will have a listing of all businesses in your area including franchises.

      Review the local yellow pages for commercial brokers and franchise offices. Commercial brokers handle the buying and selling of franchises for its owners.
