How to Make Copies of DRM Files Using Tunebite

Digital Rights Management, or DRM, is the name for the system applied to purchased digital media files (such as songs bought from Wal-Mart's online music store) to prevent users from making unauthorized copies for distribution. The Windows-compatible application TuneBite, available in both free and paid versions, allows users to make near-exact copies of purchased files without the original DRM for personal use. DRM-free files can be played on nearly any computer or media player without limitation; however, it's important to note that unauthorized distribution (also known as "file-sharing") of any copyrighted digital media is illegal.

Download the TuneBite software and install it to your Windows-based computer. Once installed, open the application by clicking "Start," "All Programs" and "TuneBite." The main TuneBite converter window appears.

Click the "Add" button next to the green plus sign, then select "Add Files..." from the menu. A browse menu appears.

Browse the computer to locate the original file that has DRM applied. Click the file to highlight it, then click "Open."

Verify that the conversion settings in the "Convert" area of the TuneBite interface are adequate. The default settings will work on the majority of computers and media players, although some users may wish to make adjustments according to preference (for example, to optimize output files for playback on particular hardware such as an Xbox 360).

Click "Start." The conversion process begins. Once complete, the new DRM-free copy of the file will exist in the same directory as the original file.
