How to Make Hobby Molds

When you are working with hobby figurines, such as those used in a role playing board game, you can stretch your dollar by making molds of the figurines. Once you bake the molded figurines in a conventional oven, you can paint and customize them just like the store-bought pewter figurine. You can make molds of your pewter figurines with polymer clay, which you can reuse as many times as you require.
    • 1

Knead a 3-inch pieces of polymer clay for two minutes to remove any air bubbles.

    • 2

Roll the clay into a ball.

    • 3

Slice the ball in half with a clay wire.

    • 4

Place the pewter figurine in between the two halves and press the halves together.

    • 5

Pry the halves apart with your fingers and remove the pewter figurine.

    • 6

Place the two halves onto a cookie sheet.

    • 7

Bake the halves in a 200 degree F oven for 10 minutes. Allow the baked mold to cool.

    • 8

Press polymer clay in between the halves of the hardened mold and close the mold.

    • 9

Press the mold together firmly, then remove the pressed figure. Bake and paint the form as you desire.
