How to Make a Notebook Cooler

Your notebook computer generates a lot of heat as it works, and if that heat is not controlled, the hot temperatures can damage the small parts inside the machine. This can severely damage your notebook to the point where it does not operate. You can avoid this result by following a few simple steps.
    • 1

Unplug the machine when you are using it. Get in the habit of charging the notebook when you are not using it and disconnecting it from its electrical source when you are working or playing on your machine. The electricity used to charge the laptop also results in a lot of heat.

Adjust your power saving settings. Depending on your computer, go into your settings and make sure that it is running in the "power saver" mode. This will use less power and decrease the heat within the notebook.

Check the temperature in the room you are working. Keep it cool in the room and try not to work outside on a hot day.

Clean the vents in the back and underneath the notebook. Turn off and unplug the device and take a static free cloth and wipe the vents. Do not use water. The vents allow your notebook to breath. If they are dirty, hot air gets trapped inside and heats the computer.

Obtain a laptop stand. You can purchase a stand for your notebook on the Web or at most electronic stores. A laptop stand lifts the notebook up off of the surface you are working on, providing room for the hot air to leave the system.
