How to Make a Proper Shooting Gallery for Pellet Rifles

Air gun shooting is rising in popularity, whether for competition, recreational target shooting or varmint hunting. Air guns are affordable and shooters are learning the convenience of not having to go to a gun range. Air gun ranges can be easily constructed by anyone with a fair amount of space. At every range, safety should be stressed and shooters should wear eye and ear protection.

Construct a trap out of cardboard, particle board or plywood. The trap can be a simple square box design with an open front. Sizes can vary depending on your needs. Ready-made traps are available for sale online or at hunting stores.

Stuff the backdrop and sides of the box with a material to help stop the pellet. Old newspapers, telephone books, duct seal or plumber's putty can be used. Any material that will absorb the pellet and not cause ricochets will work.

Place a paper target over the front opening of the trap. Fasten it to each side of the trap with a clip or glue.

Hang the trap 55 inches high at least 10 meters from away from the shooter. Make sure that the area around the trap is clear and consider safety at all times.
