How to Make Repairs on a Canon i9900

The Canon i9900 Photo Printer contains eight ink cartridges with a full array of ink colors, allowing the printer to produce full-color printouts, as well as monochromatic prints. The i9900 can handle plain paper, as well as photo paper and has the ability to print borderless photographs. If your Canon i9900 encounters problems that require you to repair it, troubleshoot the situation to make sure you know the cause first. If the repair is beyond your ability, take the printer to a repair shop.
  • Banded Printouts

    • 1

Open the printer's ink cartridge access door and wait for the cartridges to come to a stop. Remove the cartridges one at a time and peel off any of the protective tape the cartridges came wrapped in, originally.

    • 2

Place each ink cartridge in the slot that has the same markings as the cartridge. Press on the top of each cartridge until the tab on the front clicks, indicating the cartridge is securely in place, then close the ink-cartridge access cover.

    • 3

Click on the Windows icon on the computer's task bar, then click on the "Devices and Printers" option in the menu. Click on "Printers" then right-click the i9900's icon and click on "Printing Preferences."

    • 4

Click on the "Maintenance" tab, then on the button labeled, "Deep Cleaning." Click on the radio button next to "All Colors," then click on the "Execute" button to clean all of the printer's print heads.

    • 5

Repeat the cleaning process for all of the print heads up to three times. If the problem continues, replace the ink cartridges.

Power Light Flashes and Does Not Print

    • 1

Check the printer's input tray to make sure it has paper loaded. If not, place a stack of fresh paper in the input tray, and try printing again.

    • 2

Pull out any jammed paper in the input or output trays, if the printer has paper in the input tray. Press the "Power" button to turn the printer off, if you cannot remove the paper, then press the "Power" button again to start the printer up and eject the stuck paper.

    • 3

Press the "Power" button to turn off the printer and unplug the power cord. Open the printer's top and front covers and remove any foreign objects, such as paper clips or staples.

    • 4

Close the printer's covers and plug the power cord back into the outlet. Remove all of the paper from the input tray and flip through it to make sure no pages are stuck together.

    • 5

Place the paper in the input tray and adjust the paper guides to the edges of the paper stack. If the printer continues to jam, replace the paper with some from an unopened package.
