How to Make Report Covers

Create a report cover page to show your readers and potential clients that you are professional and that you mean business. Designing a cover page is simple. It is an easy format to follow. But because it is the first page your readers and clients will see, it must appear professional. Your entire report will be judged initially by the cover page.

Open your word processor software, such as Microsoft Word. Pick a font to use for your cover sheet. Times New Roman or Calibri is recommended; they are considered professional fonts. Do not try to be fancy by picking a script-like or unique font.

Scroll down to the middle of the page or press "Enter" or "Return" several times until you believe the cursor is at the middle of the page. In the tool bar of the Home tab, press the "Center Alignment" button to center your cursor. If you cannot find this button, just press "Control + e" to perform the same task.

Press "Caps Lock" to use all capital letters. Choose a font size bigger than the font size you will be using in the body of your text. Most likely, you will be using 11 or 12 for the body of your text so 14 or 16 would be a good size for your title. Type the title.

Type the author's name a few lines under the title. If there is more than one author, separate the authors' names with semicolons or commas.

    • 5

Type the date the work was published a few lines under the author's name. Include the month, date, and year and spell out the month. If there is a company or school affiliated with your work, you can include the name of that institution as well.

Save your cover sheet by going to "Save As" and then name your work. Put a clear sheet of unlined, 8.5-by-11-inch paper in your printer. Then press "Print."
