Have your child stand up straight, with her hands at her side, so you can take accurate measurements. Keep some pen and paper handy so you can write down the measurements as you take them.
- 2
Measure across the front of the chest about 4 inches below the chin to get the width measurement for the apron bib. Measure down from that same point to the waist to get the length measurement for the apron bib.
- 3
Find the measurements you need for the skirt of the apron by measuring around the waist and then measuring from the waist down to the knees, which will cover up most of his clothes.
- 4
Add to your measurements so you know how much fabric to actually cut allowing for hems and seam allowances. Add 1/2 inch all the way around to the apron bib measurements. Add 1/2 inch all the way around for the apron skirt measurements as well.
- 5
Measure around the neck to get the measurement for the neck strap of the apron. Start 4 inches down from the chin on one side of her chest and go around the back of the neck to 4 inches down the front of her chest on the other side. Add 2 inches to this measurement to make sure that there is plenty of room and that the apron will not choke her while she is wearing it.

Estimate the measurement needed for the ties that go around the waist. Use a 20-inch long measurement for both sides of the ties. Add a little more if necessary for an older child.

How to Measure a Child for an Apron
Some children really enjoy cooking in the kitchen with their parents or grandparents. These same kids do have a tendency to make a mess in the kitchen from time to time, especially a mess of themselves. Help keep them neat and tidy, even in the kitchen, by making them an apron. Make the simplest design of an apron with a square top and a rectangular bottom. Take careful measurements of your child before cutting out the fabric for the apron to make sure you have a perfect fit.
