Breathe in deeply. Decide if the battle is worth the yelling. Consider alternatives such as phrasing your request a different way when your child doesn't do as you told her, or giving your request in a clearer manner. Remember you have the choice to yell or not to yell and do something else that is constructive instead. There is no one else in charge of that but you.

Turn on the vacuum cleaner or some really loud music. The loud noise may help relieve some of your frustration. You wanted a loud noise to get your frustration out, so do something constructive like pushing the vacuum around the living room while it makes racket.

Leave the room. Go into a quiet room for a few minutes until you can control yourself. This might be the bathroom or your bedroom. The idea is to leave the source of your frustration for a bit. Read a book while you are in there, lay down on your bed or listen to some music.

Take a walk. A change of scenery can help ease your frustration. This is especially helpful when you have been working on a project, studying or sitting in one place for a long time concentrating on tasks.
- 5
Call a friend. A friend who is willing to listen to you rant and rave about your frustrations for a few minutes can help relieve tension.

Exercise. Hop on your treadmill. Get in the car, and go to the gym. Rake the yard, work in the garden, fold laundry, sweep or dust. Physical exertion that is constructive and burns calories is better than getting a sore throat from yelling.

How to Not Yell When Frustrated
Identify the cause of your frustration before you start yelling. This brief pause in action can give you a different perspective on the situation, helping you to choose an alternative action that is more productive and less stressful on the vocal chords. Whether you want to kick and scream at the washing machine because it refuses to stay balanced, or your children refuse to do as you have asked, a short break or pause before you yell is vital to not yelling.
