How to Open a Maytag MDE6000AZW Dryer

The Maytag MDE6000AZW is a front-loading electric dryer. The dryer is designed with Maytag's newer L-shaped door, giving it a more contemporary feel. To make any major repairs on the dryer, you must first disassemble it. Disassembling the Maytag MDE6000AZW is a straightforward process that can be accomplished in minimal time. Once the dryer is disassembled, you'll have access to its major components, including the motor and heating element.

      Disconnect the dryer from the electrical outlet. Slide the dryer out from the wall and disconnect the vent from the rear panel.

      Open the door and remove the four screws inside the door jamb. There are two screws along the left side of the jamb and one near each hinge. Lift the door up to pull it off of its hinges and set it to the side.

      Pull the top of the U-shaped front panel toward you to pop it out from under the top panel. Twist the top posts of the front panel slightly to unlock them from the top panel. Lift the front panel up to disengage the bottom retaining clips and slide the front panel to the side.

      Remove the two screws holding the retaining clips in place under the corners of the top panel. Pop the clips off of the dryer. This will allow you to lift the top up slightly.

      Remove the four screws holding the dryer's front bulkhead in place. Lift the top up slightly and pull the bulkhead toward you. Disconnect the door switch wiring harness by pressing the plastic release tab on the harness. Slide the bulkhead to the side.

      Reach underneath the drum and unstring the drum belt from the idler pulley and motor pulley. Press in on the idler arm to release the tension and pull the belt off of the pulleys. Make a note of how the belt was strung so you can easily replace it later. Slide the belt off of the drum.

      Lift the top panel slightly and slide the drum forward and out of the dryer. Once the drum is removed, you can access any of the major internal components of the dryer.
