How to Program a TI-84 Calculator

The TI-84 calculator from Texas Instruments is a scientific and graphing calculator that can perform several functions at once by using a program. A program consists of one or more instructions that you enter individually through the programming menu. When you select the finished program to run, the TI-84 performs the calculations in the list from the program and displays the results. Programs are useful for a large series of steps or if you are performing a large quantity of calculations.

      Press the "PRGM" key, then press the left arrow key to display "PRGM NEW" screen.

      Select "1: Create New" by pressing the "ENTER" key. "Name=" appears on the TI-84's screen, and the calculator automatically locks the keypad for alphabetical characters.

      Enter a name for the new program. The program's name can be up to eight characters long, but the first character has to be alphabetical or 0.

      Press "ENTER" to save the program's name and to move the screen to the program editor.

      Type in the commands you want the calculator to perform. The TI-84 will perform the program in the exact order you specify, so be sure to enter the commands in the correct sequence for the calculation you wish performed.

      Press the "2nd" key to save the new program and to return to the home screen.
