Connect an audio/video cable to your DVR and to the computer's capture card. Make sure that the cable you use is compatible with both your DVR and iPod. If you prefer to use a firewire card and your DVR has one, you can use that instead. One end of the cable goes into the "Video Out" port on the DVR and the other goes into your capture card.

How to Record From a DVR to an iPod
The formats of items saved on iPods and DVRs are not compatible with each other. For that reason, recordings from a DVR cannot be transferred to an iPod without changing the format of the files. Fortunately, this can be done with your computer and video capture card or firewire card and a video conversion utility. In just a few steps, you can move files from your DVR to your iPod.
