How to Recover a Phoenix BIOS Password

Your computer's basic input/output system (BIOS) manages how your motherboard communicates with its hardware and at what speed it must communicate with each individual component. When you forget your BIOS password, your computer has a fail-safe method for resetting the password, allowing you to set another one later on. The secret for every Phoenix BIOS version lies in your CMOS battery, which provides power to your BIOS chip when your computer does not have any power flowing through it.

  Turn off your computer and take out its cables. Turn the unit around with the rear facing in your direction.

  Remove the two or three screws that attach the right cover to the right side of your computer. You find these screws in a straight line on the edge of the right side of your system.

  Pull back on the cover and lift it off, exposing your computer's interior.

  Pry off the small round battery on the bottom of your motherboard with a flat-head screwdriver and leave it off for about half an hour. Then put it back in and close up your computer.

  Connect your computer's cables back and turn it on. Your BIOS has no password now, and you may set a password if you wish.
