Check out the prices you can expect for your catalytic converter. Look for a model number on your catalytic converter, then search for similar models in the online classifieds.

Find a scrap metal recycler near you. Ask your local waste management office to recommend scrap metal recyclers, or search for recyclers by typing in "scrap metal" into the searchable database at Earth911 (see link in Resources section). Call the recycling company and ask whether it accepts catalytic converters, and how much it might pay for your particular model.

Drop off your catalytic converter at the scrap metal recycling collection center of your choice. Take your photo identification with you, as most states require you to register when you recycle metals. Typically, you will receive a check, as opposed to cash, for your catalytic converter.

How to Recycle Catalytic Converter Metal
Catalytic converters, used in cars since 1975 to reduce emissions, contain valuable metals such as platinum and palladium. With the price of platinum at about $1,700 per oz. as of 2010, the materials inside your old catalytic converter are quite valuable---and definitely recyclable. While you can't recycle your catalytic converter curbside (and you probably won't want to, when they fetch you a nice price) you can instead recycle them at a scrap metal recycler in your area.
