How to Recycle Sanding Belts

Sanding belts are abrasive surfaces used in workshops to smooth and shape material. After time, they begin to loose their ability to file things down, and that's when you know it is time to change them. It's a waste to throw away something that can be useful for other things, so read on to find out how you can recycle your sanding belt.

Cut the sanding belt into a smaller size if it is too big. Then turn it into an anti-slip mat for carpets, rugs or any type of fabric decoration.

    • 2

Stick double-sided tape to the sanding belt and to the floor. Ensure that the floor is a smooth, solid surface (not carpet). Alternatively, stick the belt to a table or countertop. There is no need to stick the sanding belt to the carpet, as the rough surface of the belt will cause it to hold the carpet in place.

Place the carpet on top of the sanding belt and cover it in its entirety.

    Recycle for the Workshop

    • 1

Cut the sanding belt into smaller rectangles

    • 2

Glue the pieces onto a wooden block, so that a sanding belt piece covers three of the four sides.

    • 3

Use the sanding belt as an alternative to sandpaper to smooth down rough patches in wood.
