Reset the cartridge before you refill it. Epson cartridges have small smart chips installed on them, which keep track of cartridges' ink levels. To refill a cartridge, you need to reset the chip so it recognizes the "refilled" ink level. A resetter can be purchased from any store that sells printer accessories.
- 2
Use a thumb drill to drill a tiny hole on the upper portion of the cartridge, right above the "PUSH" button.
- 3
Drill another hole right next to the first one. Make sure you drill it toward the "Epson cartridge" label.
The first hole is for refilling the ink, while the second is to let air escape.
- 4
Fill the syringe with 10 ml of ink.
- 5
Inject ink into the first hole you drilled. Stop when you see ink bubbling out of the hole you are injecting the ink into.
- 6
Put the cartridge back in your Epson R280 printer. The printer should then be ready for use.

How to Refill Epson R280 Cartridges
The Epson Stylus R280 is an inkjet printer. Although it offers some good features such as 4 x 6-inch photo printing in 11 seconds or text document printing at the rate of 38 pages per minute, its cartridges tend to run out of ink quickly, as with all other inkjet printers. Since it's a color printer, you will often find it short of either one color or the other. As of 2010, individual color cartridges for this printer will cost you $19.99, while a multipack will cost you $89.99, which may not be affordable for many people. To save this unnecessary expense of buying new cartridges altogether, you could refill the existing ones.
