How to Reinstall My CD Writer

When you update or install new programs, old computer hardware may develop compatibility issues. To repair this problem, try to uninstall and reinstall your device. When you uninstall a hardware device, your computer retains a copy of the driver, allowing you to easily reinstall the hardware. To reinstall a CD writer, you must remove it from the computer's device manager. After rebooting your computer, the computer should recognize the device and repair any compatibility issues.

      Click "Start," and then right-click "Computer."

      Select "Properties," and then click "Device Manager" under the "Tasks" heading.

      Click the "+" sign next to "DVD/CD-ROM Drives."

      Right-click your CD writer and select "Uninstall." Click "OK" to continue. Windows will uninstall your CD writer.

      Restart your computer. Your computer will automatically recognize your CD writer and install the driver.

      Click the "+" sign next to "DVD/CD-ROM Drives."

      Look at your CD writer. If it contains a red exclamation point next to the name, the driver was not installed. Right-click your drive and select "Update Driver Software." Insert your CD writer installation disk and follow the on-screen prompts. If the name does not contain a red exclamation point, the CD writer is properly installed.
