How to Remove and Install the Headlight Switch in a 1994 Lincoln Cartier Town Car

If the low and high beam headlights on a 1994 Lincoln Cartier Town Car are not functioning, replace the headlight switch. The headlight switch allows the driver to turn the low and high beam headlights on and off. The headlight switch on the 1994 Lincoln Cartier Town Car resides below the instrument panel on the upper dashboard. Although some trim needs to come off to access the headlight switch hardware, no other parts need removing. For this reason, expect the replacement procedure to take less than half an hour.

  Turn off the 1994 Lincoln Cartier Town Car and prop open the hood with the hood support rod.

  Disconnect the negative battery cable by loosening the negative terminal nut with the crescent wrench and lift the cable from the terminal.

  Sit in the driver's side seat and remove the two screws mounting the lower dashboard trim. Pull off the lower dashboard trim.

  Remove the screw securing the headlight switch housing to the headlight switch mounting bracket.

  Turn the headlight switch knob to off, press it in and pull it and the shaft it is attached to out of the headlight switch housing.

  Pry the headlight switch housing out of the trim it is set in with your fingers or a screwdriver. Place some tape around the trim if you're afraid of scratching it as you work.

  Unplug the two wiring harnesses connected to the rear of the headlight switch.

  Connect the two wiring harnesses to the replacement headlight switch and follow the previous steps in reverse to finish installing the new switch.
