How to Remove a Dell Background Screen From a Terminal Session

Dell incorporates a high resolution desktop wallpaper in remote sessions established to a server. The wallpaper is a heavy image that slows down the Remote Desktop connection to the Terminal Server by causing excessive amounts of image data to be transmitted. You can remove the Dell background screen and restore yourself to a single-color desktop that does not require as much bandwidth or processing power.

  Click "Start" and type "regedit." Press "Enter."

  Expand "HKEY_USERS" > ".DEFAULT" > "Control Panel" > "Desktop."

  Locate the "Wallpaper" value on the right panel.

  Right-click it and then click "Delete." Confirm the deletion request.

  Close the registry editor.

  Reconnect to your Dell Terminal Server over Remote Desktop. The wallpaper will now be gone.
