How to Remove Hidden Mailer Programs

If you want to remove programs in Windows, you typically use the Add/Remove programs. But if the program is a hidden mailer program, or other hidden program, it will not appear in the list of programs in the Add/Remove interface. Access and modify an internal Windows configuration file to display the desired program and then remove it.
    • 1

Open "My Computer" on the Windows desktop.

    • 2

Navigate to your system root (by default this is set to C:\Windows) and open the inf directory. If you cannot see the inf directory, it is hidden. To display it, click the "Tools" menu, then select "Folder Options." Click the "View" tab. Under "Hidden Files and Folders" enable "Show Hidden Files and Folders."

    • 3

Right click the sysoc.inf file and select "Open With." From the list of programs that appear, click "Notepad."

    • 4

Click "Control" + "F" keys. The find window appears.

    • 5

Search for the program name in the file. It will not be the literal name but should be similar to that name, so you can search on a partial string. If the find feature does not work, you can visually scan for the program name.

    • 6

Remove the word "HIDE" from the content adjacent to the term.

    • 7

      Save and close the file.

    • 8

Click "Start" on the Windows desktop. Open the "Control Panel."

    • 9

      Click "Add and Remove Programs."

    • 10

Click "Remove" next to the mailer program that was previously hidden.
