How to Remove StuffIt

StuffIt is a utility for Mac OS X (it came pre-installed as part of the OS, up until 10.4) that expands a number of different archive formats (Zip, RAR, etc.). The removal of StuffIt applications (Expander, Deluxe) is notoriously difficult, as the utility spreads different components across the breadth of your user directory -- unlike other Mac applications, where the removal simply consists of dragging the application icon to the Trash. Luckily, an uninstaller utility has cropped up to take care of the extra hassle, making the removal a few-clicks process. StuffIt also provides a Windows version of the utility, the removal of which is much simpler than its Mac counterpart.

Mac Uninstall

  Download the StuffIt uninstaller utility. Save the file to your desktop. Double-click the downloaded file to extract the uninstaller.

  Double-click "StuffIt Uninstaller" to launch utility.

  Click "Uninstall All StuffIt Components and Preferences." Place a checkmark in the box labeled "Remove all StuffIt engine frameworks..." Click "Uninstall."

  Enter your user password to confirm the action. When the utility completes the operation, a dialog will inform you of the successful completion, click "OK."

Windows`Uninstall

  Open the Windows "Start" menu and click "Control Panel."

  Click "Programs and Features" under the "Programs" header.

  Click to highlight the StuffIt application in the listed of installed programs. Click "Uninstall" to remove the application.
