Open the toner cartridge cover door. This door is usually located on the right-hand side for large-format laser printers with a built-in control panel. The toner access door is often on the front for smaller laser printers.

Grasp the toner cartridge by its handle and pull it straight out of the machine. Set the toner aside for recycling.

Locate the small tab that controls the carousel if you are working with a multitoner machine. Color printers often use a toner carousel to handle the different color toner cartridges. If the machine is powered on, you can use the control panel to position the cartridge. But if the machine is powered down, you will need to move the tab to the unlocked position and move the carousel manually.

Insert the new toner cartridge, and push it until it is firmly seated. Be sure to remove any packaging materials before inserting the new toner.

How to Remove a Toner Cartridge Without Power
No matter what brand and model of laser printer you own, eventually you will need to replace the toner cartridge. Toner is a normal consumable for all laser printers, and learning how to remove and replace those cartridges is part of your job as a printer owner. Fortunately, you can remove and replace the toner cartridge on your laser printer even when the power goes out.
