How to Remove Wax Dripped on Cloth

Candles set up a nice mood and pleasant environment. Unfortunately, candle wax can also drip onto unwanted surfaces such as a tablecloth or blouse. Removing candle wax is a relatively simple procedure. Resist the temptation to wipe the wax off while it is still hot. This will only spread the wax and make a bigger mess. It is much easier to remove wax from cloth once it has cooled.

Allow the wax to dry before attempting to remove it.

Scrape off the excess wax with a butter knife. A sharper knife may be substituted for the butter knife if the wax is stubborn, but use a sharper knife with caution.

    • 3

Lay the cloth on a flat surface such as a table. Place a towel underneath the cloth to protect the table.

    • 4

Place a piece of blotting paper or a paper towel on the cloth.

    • 5

Heat an iron and move the iron back and forth over the blotting paper. When the wax heats it will stick to the paper. If the paper becomes saturated with wax, move the paper and place a clean piece of paper over the wax. Continue to iron until the wax is successfully removed from the cloth. Allow the cloth to cool. If the wax leaves a stain proceed to the next steps.

Mix an oxygen-based stain remover in a bowl with water. Place the stained part of the cloth in the bowl and allow it to sit overnight. Wash the cloth with the laundry the next day.
