How to Remove Windscreen Wipers

Once the rubber inserts within a wiper become dull, you will hear them squeak against the windscreen, even in rain or when you are applying wiper fluid. The wipers will become less effective, and the longer you leave them on your car, the worse your visibility will be when you need to use them. Removing the wipers is a relatively simple process. The connection may vary from one make and model to another, but the removal process is essentially the same.

  Park the wiper blades in the middle of the windscreen. This will provide you with easier access, especially if the wipers on your vehicle are partially obstructed by the hood once they are turned off.

  Lift the driver's side wiper arm off the windscreen and lock it into an upright position.

  Release the safety clip at the center of the wiper blade. On some wipers it's a button, while on others it's a tab or tiny lever. No matter the design, this clip is what keeps the blade fastened to the arm.

  Pull the wiper off the wiper arm. Whether the connection type is a hook arm or a pinch tab, it will come right out. Dislodge pin wipers by inserting the tip of a flat-head screwdriver between the side of the connector and the pin arm and pry it off.

  Place a towel or a sponge on the windscreen and lower the arm onto it. This will keep the metal arm from scratching and damaging the windscreen.

  Repeat the removal process on the other wiper.
