How to Repair the Toshiba A65

The Toshiba A65 runs on the Windows XP operating system, has 256 megabytes of RAM and a 2.8 GHz processor. While it is ideal for using the Internet, this computer can break down after a year of use. Common problems associated with the A65 are the power jack, on-board memory and the heatsink. If any of these problems are left untreated, the A65 will stop working.

Clean the heatsink if your A65 is overheating. Blow a can of compressed air into the the air intake on the side of the laptop. The air intake can become clogged with dust after using the laptop for years. Blowing air into the intake will remove the dust buildup.

Test the on-board memory. Download "Memtest 86+" from the Toshiba site. Burn the program to a CD. Reboot the A65. Since it runs on Windows XP, the CD will boot automatically. The test will automatically scan the A65's on-board memory. If you do not see any messages, the memory is fine. If you see any red messages, the on-board memory is corrupted and needs replacing. Unscrew the A65's casing with a Phillips screwdriver and remove it. Pull the casing apart. Unscrew the gold rectangular. This is the on-board memory. Replace it with the recommended piece in the user's manual.

Replace the power jack if the A65's jack will not work. Unscrew the A65's casing and remove it. Remove the motherboard so that you can get to the power jack. Remove the old power jack and replace a new one in its place. Solder the new power jack into position. Reposition the motherboard and screw the casing back into position.
