How to Replace a 2001 Impala Headlight

For several decades, the Chevrolet Impala has been a poster child for the American automotive industry. Because of the vehicle's popularity and longevity, many Impala owners have learned how much of the car works inside and out. When a minor repair is needed, such as a headlight that needs to be replaced, it's a simple task that you can do right in your driveway or garage. If you are an Impala owner, make sure you learn how to handle small repairs such as this to save yourself a trip to the mechanic.

      Turn the ignition off and set the parking brake. Open the hood and locate the air baffle in front of the radiator secured by two plastic fasteners. Locate the air baffle and lift the fasteners that secure it to remove it.

      Disconnect the electrical connector from the rear of the headlight assembly. Pull the headlight assembly towards the front of the vehicle to remove it.

      Locate and remove the black plastic caps from the rear of the headlight assembly to access the bulb. Turn the bulb counterclockwise to remove it from the assembly.

      Disconnect the electrical connector from the base of the bulb and reattach the connector to the replacement bulb. Insert the new bulb into the rear of the headlight assembly by placing the smallest tab on the bulb base into the retaining ring. Turn the bulb counterclockwise to tighten it until it is secure.

      Slide the headlight assembly back into the front of the vehicle. Replace the two plastic headlight fasteners and the air baffle that were removed earlier. Close the hood and test the new headlight to make sure it is functioning properly.
