How to Replace an APC 1000Xl Battery

The APC 1000XL is an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) unit, which provides backup power to crucial computer networks, security systems and other electronic devices. To supply this continual power, UPS units rely on rechargeable batteries during blackouts. Over time, the APC 1000XL's maximum charge capacity dwindles and it needs replacement. Without a functioning battery, the unit can't fulfill its main purpose, but fortunately, changing the battery is a straightforward process that will have the UPS unit quickly back online.
    • 1

Turn off and unplug your APC 1000XL.

    • 2

Unscrew the APC 1000XL's main access panel using the Phillips screwdriver. This panel is located on the left-hand side of the unit.

    • 3

      Unplug the battery's connector cable.

    • 4

Slide the old battery out of the APC 1000XL. Slide in the new battery and fit it snugly into its compartment. Flip the battery over if you encounter resistance, as the battery can only slide in one way.

    • 5

Snap the battery's power cable into the connectors on the unit, located just above the battery compartment.

    • 6

Place the main access panel back on your APC 1000XL unit and reinsert the screws.
