How to Replace the Cord in a Cellular Shade

Cellular shades trap pockets of air between the window and shade, providing an added degree of insulation against warmth or cold. If the pull cord gets stuck, you may need to restring it. Various styles have their own stringing methods, so you should always refer to the manufacturer's installation guide for cord widths and instructions. It's a pretty straightforward process, though.

Take off the cap that covers the hole at the bottom of the shade. Cut off the knots in the ends of the cord. Slip off the end cap.

    • 2

Pull the end of the cord through the bottom of the shade.

    • 3

Burn the ends of the new cord and the old cord. Blow out the flame immediately. Hold the ends of the new cord and old cord against each other so they melt together. Roll the melted ends together so they bond.

    • 4

Pull the top end of the old cord through the top of the shade. Thread the new cord through the slats.

Replace the end cap of the shade in the bottom. Thread the bottom of the new cords through the end cap. Tie a knot in the new cords to secure the cap.
