How to Replace a Headlight on a 2000 Chevy Impala

For close to half a century, the Chevrolet Impala has been a staple in the American automotive industry. For this reason, many owners of this vehicle have learned how most of the car works inside and out. When a minor repair is needed, such as a broken headlight, it's a simple task to replace it right from your driveway. If you are a lucky owner of an Impala and encounter this problem, learn how to handle it yourself.

  Engage the parking brake and turn the Impala's ignition off for safety purposes. Open the hood using the latch located to the left of the parking brake pedal on the driver's side, followed by the latch under the center of the hood in the front of the vehicle.

  Remove the air baffle, which is the long black panel located under the hood in front of the radiator. Locate and lift the two plastic headlight fasteners to remove them.

  Pull the headlight assembly up and away from the front of the Impala. Detach the electrical connector from the rear of the headlight assembly.

  Remove the round caps from the back of the assembly to access the bulb. Turn the old bulb counterclockwise to remove it.

  Remove the electrical connector from the base of the bulb. Reattach the electrical connector to the new replacement bulb.

  Insert the new bulb into the headlight assembly by placing the smallest tab on the bulb base into the notch in the retaining ring. Turn the bulb counterclockwise until it is secure.

  Insert the headlight assembly back into the front of the Impala. Replace the two plastic headlight fasteners as well as the air baffle. Close the hood and test your new headlight to ensure it is working properly.
