How to Replace Types of Windshield Wiper Blades

Not all windshield wipers are the same. Cars and trucks require different lengths. While you can measure blades to find their size in inches, you also can look up sizing information by make and model at a wiper blade manufacturer's website. Also, the blades fit wiper arms in different ways. Hook arm connections are the most prevalent, but there are push-tab and small pin assemblies, too. Finding your exact connection style requires scanning the blades' arms.

Shift the driver's side wiper arm to a standing position.

Look at the center of the blade. You should see a type of safety clasp, lever or tab. If not, pinch both sides of the connection and see whether you can pull the blade out. If so, your wipers fit a pinch-tab connection. If not, look at the underside of the wiper's middle connector. If you see a pin running through the connector, your wiper fits a small pin wiper arm. This wiper blade can be pried off the arm using a regular screwdriver.

Move the lever or press the tab at the center of the arm to remove the blade. These mechanisms secure the blades to the arms. When they are released, the wiper can be removed.

Look at the end of the arm. If it has a hook, you have a hook arm connection. There are two types of these fits depending on the size of the hook.
