How to Reset the Ink Level in HP Inkjet Cartridges

Purchasing ink cartridges can become very costly. You can reuse old HP ink cartridges by refilling them with an ink refilling kit. But your printer will not recognize the cartridge, even if it is refilled, as full, making it virtually useless. To circumvent this problem, you must reset the HP ink cartridge. This can be easily accomplished by using tape. After undergoing this process, the HP ink cartridge will be reset and recognized as full.

Find the contacts of six copper-colored lines on the ink cartridge and place adhesive tape over the first dot on the second copper line, which is located on the left of the cartridge. Insert the ink cartridge into the printer and print a test page to activate the cartridge.

Remove the HP ink cartridge from the printer after printing the test page.

Do not remove the adhesive tape on the first contact. Put some tape over the second contact, covering it, which is the first dot in the fifth copper line found on the right of the cartridge. Reinsert the HP ink cartridge into the printer, and print another test page.

Remove the ink cartridge from the printing device again. Take off the adhesive tape from both contacts, and make sure that there is no tape residue on the contacts. Reinsert the HP ink cartridge into the printing device. The printer will now recognize the cartridge as full and reset.
