How to Reset the "Change Oil" Light on a Chevy Avalanche

The Chevrolet Avalanche is a sport utility truck that began production in the 2002 model year. You can reset the "Change Oil" light using the Driver Information Center (DIC) on some models. An alternative reset procedure does not require the DIC.
  • DIC Procedure

    • 1

      Start the Avalanche.

    • 2

Select "Oil Life Remaining" using the DIC's vehicle information button. The location of the DIC's 4 buttons can vary depending on the model and year. The vehicle information button contains an icon that shows a car with a lowercase "i" next to it. You can select "Oil Life Remaining" by pressing the vehicle information button repeatedly until the appropriate information is displayed.

    • 3

Press and hold the "Set/Reset" button on the DIC. The oil life display will change to "100," indicating that 100 percent of the oil's usable life remains.

    Non-DIC Procedure

    • 1

Insert the key in the ignition and turn it to the "On/Run" position. Do not start the vehicle.

    • 2

Fully depress the accelerator three times within five seconds.

    • 3

Monitor the "Change Engine Oil Soon" light. If the display returns repeat Steps 1 and 2.
