How to Reuse Glass Jars From Grocery Stores

When you buy jarred foods from the grocery store, you may not know what to do with the empty jars. Most jars purchased at grocery stores cannot be resealed to preserve foods again. One solution is to use the glass jars for other purposes. You can decorate, alter and embellish the used glass jars so you can use them for storing items, like coins or buttons, or as materials in a crafts projects, such as container candle making.
    • 1

Wash out the glass jar with dish soap and hot water. Rinse out all of the soap, and dry the jar with a towel.

    • 2

Place 1 pound of beeswax into an empty coffee can.

    • 3

Place the coffee can into a pot, and fill the pot halfway up with water.

    • 4

Heat the pot over medium heat until the wax melts.

    • 5

Stir in 2 teaspoons of fragrance oil and mix well.

    • 6

Place two clothespins onto the end of a cotton wick, arranging them so they are pointing away from each other.

    • 7

Hold the wick against the outside of the glass jar, and cut off the excess from the bottom with scissors. The wick should stick out 1 inch above the jar.

    • 8

Insert the wick into the jar, allowing the clothespins to rest on the jar's edge.

    • 9

Pour the melted wax into the glass jar, filling it to about ¼-inch from the edge.

    • 10

Let the glass jar candle cool completely, then remove the clothespins.
