How to Rinse & Reuse Pool Filters

Most pool filters use a cloth canister-style filter to remove particulates from the water. Over a period of a few weeks, the filter becomes clogged and no longer adequately filters dirt from the water. Your pool will quickly become cloudy. Although replacement filters are not overly expensive, the cost can add up over a summer. To avoid this cost, you can rinse and reuse your pool filter.

Pour 1/2 gallon bleach into a bucket, and then fill the bucket with water from a garden hose.

    • 2

Submerge the canister filter into the bucket so the whole filter is covered with water. Leave the filter in the bucket for 10 to 15 minutes.

    • 3

Remove the canister from the bucket and place it on a clean surface.

    • 4

Spray the filter material with hose water while you turn the filter. Continue to do this until the filter turns white again or until you can see that you have removed the dirt from the material.
