How to Run Vista Applications in Windows 2000

If you have an application on your Windows Vista-based computer that is designed to run on the Windows 2000 operating system, you can ensure the software executes smoothly by running it in compatibility mode. Vista includes a built-in compatibility mode for operating systems from the past, including 2000.

      Right-click on the shortcut icon of the program that you want to run in Windows Vista's "Windows 2000" compatibility mode.

      Click "Properties." From this window, select the "Compatibility" tab.

      Click the "Compatibility Mode" drop-down menu and select "Windows 2000."

      Click "Apply." This will close out of the shortcut icon's "Properties" window.

      Double-click the shortcut icon for the program to run it in Windows Vista's "Windows 2000" compatibility mode.
